“The seeded rye changed our weekend. We buy two loaves every Saturday — one for toast, one disappears by Sunday afternoon.”
Decatur · Oakhurst · Since 2019
Bread from our mill.
Pastries by hand.
We stone-mill Georgia wheat every week, proof overnight, and bake before the neighborhood wakes up. Grab a loaf, a latte, and a seat by the window.
Today's board
The 7:15 rush is our favorite hour.
Regulars line up for still-warm boules while the grinder hums in back. Kids pick sticky buns from the case; remote workers claim the corner tables. We keep the line moving — and the coffee hot.
- 40+ loaves out by 9am
- 6 grains milled on-site
- 100% butter croissants, no shortcuts
“Best morning ritual in Decatur. The seeded rye never lasts past noon.”
About the mill
We know the farmer and the grain.
Mill & Loaf started when baker Mara Ellis wanted bread that tasted like the wheat itself — not masked by sugar or additives. We partner with small Georgia farms for red wheat, rye, and spelt, then mill in-house twice a week.
Long fermentation, natural leaven, and a wood-fired deck oven give every loaf a crackly crust and a soft, tangy crumb. Pastry chef Jordan runs the morning case — laminated dough, local fruit, and European butter.

What neighbors say
“Catered our PTA breakfast. Labels for nut allergies, coffee that actually tasted good, and not a single stale croissant.”
“Worth the early drive. Case is half empty by 9:30 — get there when they open.”

- Parking
- Street parking on East Ponce and side streets off Oakview. A small lot behind the shop fits six cars — please don't block the loading zone before 8am.
- Do you take cards?
- Yes — cards, Apple Pay, and cash. Tips go to the whole team, not just baristas.
- Gluten-free options?
- We bake with wheat flour in an open kitchen. We offer one rotating GF pastry from a partner bakery — ask what's in the case today. We cannot guarantee zero cross-contact.
- Can I freeze bread?
